Rafaella Graña

Born and raised in the vibrant city of Lima, Peru, Rafaella Graña connection to dance began in her infancy, starting formal training at the age of 14 at the esteemed D1 dance school. There, she immersed herself in the rhythms of bachata, the playful steps of chachacha, and the intricate patterns of salsa, skillfully navigating both lead and follow roles as well as On1 and On2 timing.

Upon moving to Canada, Rafa's dance journey took an exciting turn as she embraced the elegance of Ballroom at the University of Alberta Dance Club under the guidance of Delphine Romaire. This period not only saw her become a Salsa instructor but also a valued Ballroom Teaching Assistant. Following a move to Montreal after the pandemic, Rafa enthusiastically resumed her Latin dance training and continued to share her passion through teaching.

Since relocating to Calgary, Rafa has become an integral part of the Montuno Dance Company, where the mentorship of Moises and Lianabel has been instrumental in refining her technique and solidifying her presence in the local scene. Demonstrating her commitment to the wider community, she also volunteers her time with the University of Calgary Dance Club, joyfully introducing students and staff to the beauty and excitement of Latin dance.

As an instructor, Rafa is known for her exceptional ability to demystify complex techniques, breaking them down into easily digestible steps. Her classes are enriched by the provision of varied movement options to accommodate all levels. Her experience as both a lead and a follow provides her with a unique and invaluable perspective, allowing her to offer insightful feedback to dancers in both roles.

As a dancer, Rafa is celebrated for her versatility, effortlessly transitioning between diverse styles, timings, and roles. Beyond her technical skill, she is a passionate advocate for equality, tolerance, and solidarity within the dance community, bringing not only captivating movement but also a spirit of inclusivity to every dance floor.
